Benefits by role

What LivingPANELS deliver for you.

Property developers calculate differently from planners, municipalities differently from facility managers. Here is what counts for each role – with the numbers behind it.

Who it is for

One system, six different benefits.

Choose your role and see which benefits matter to you. Backed by data, of course.

Developers & Investors

Green at handover – and a number you know before the decision.

Facade greening that is complete when the keys are handed over and can be costed like a building component: defined dimensions, defined weight, documented operating effort.

From day onefully green< 50 kg/m²fully water-saturated19 projects2,800 m² realised
  • Marketable from handoverOn day one the facade looks the way it does in the rendering – no “still to come”.
  • Costed earlyFixed module dimensions and weight, known maintenance effort and water demand – life-cycle costs instead of estimates.
  • Certification and fundingCounts in DGNB/ÖGNI (biotope area factor, “Green Building” bonus) and is subsidised in Vienna, Graz, Linz and many German cities.
  • RemovableModules can be taken out and reused – no risk to the facade or building fabric.
Architecture & Planning

A building component with standard details, not a hope for growth.

LivingPANELS are planned like a curtain-wall facade: with DWG standard details, reference to standards, fire class and a planting plan that suits the site – the planting pattern is yours to design.

  • Design freedomModule grid, planting pattern and species mix to your design – full-surface, as a band or as an accent; in front of fire walls, above underground car parks, on existing buildings.
  • Planning documentsTechnical information, standard details (DWG), checklist for planning and tendering; specification text and structural verification on a project basis.
  • Rear-ventilatedCurtain-wall mounted with an air gap – no root pressure, no plant contact with the facade, building fabric protected.
  • Technical consultingTobias Vollmann and Leon Steininger support you from the pre-design phase through to detailed planning.
General Contractors & Execution

Installation without a green thumb: three steps, no gardener.

All the horticultural work is done during pre-cultivation: the modules arrive on site fully grown. What remains is pure installation work – set the rails, connect and test the irrigation, hook in the modules. Any installation crew can do it, with no specialist gardeners and no plant knowledge.

3 stepsPlug & play8–10 weekspre-cultivation in the greenhouseLeak testbefore hooking in
  • No gardener on sitePlants, substrate and establishment are completed in the greenhouse. On the scaffolding there is only installation – with your own crew or general labourers, no specialist gardeners needed.
  • Short scaffolding timesPre-grown modules instead of planting work on the scaffolding – standing time depends on the installation, not on growth.
  • Leaks visible before hooking inThe irrigation is tested while everything is still accessible – no rework behind mounted modules.
  • Clear interfacesSubstructure, water and power connections are defined; standard details are available as DWG.
  • On schedulePre-cultivation runs in parallel with the shell construction – plan it in early and the facade is green at handover.
Municipalities & Public Sector

Impact where the heat is: at eye level in the street.

Vienna today counts more than twice as many hot days as in 1961–1990. Green facades on schools, public buildings and railway stations make a visible difference – and deliver measured values that fit into climate adaptation plans.

up to −5.6 °Ccooler air at the greening9–16 °Ccooler surface1 maintenance visitper year as a rule
  • Documented, not claimedMeasured in the HEDWIG research project (BOKU/IBO), raw data open – citable for council meetings and funding applications.
  • Visible to citizensThe facade is the surface people see – unlike a green roof. 84 % of residents of greened buildings view it positively.
  • Eligible for fundingThe federal KPC programme funds facade-bound greening on municipal buildings as part of thermal refurbishments; plus state and city programmes.
  • Low operating effortSensor-controlled irrigation, under 1 m³ of water per m² and year, maintenance by maintenance partners under contract.
  • Protection against graffitiA planted surface cannot be sprayed – especially at plinth zones, underpasses and operations buildings, cleaning and repainting are no longer needed.
Companies & Businesses

The facade as a key figure – not a symbol.

A green company facade makes an impression on customers and employees, reduces solar gain on the south side and delivers values that stand up to scrutiny in sustainability reports.

€120/m²KPC for comprehensive refurbishment88–90 %less solar radiation behind the greeningDGNB/ÖGNIcreditable
  • Measurable ESG contributionsContinuous monitoring instead of declarations of intent: cooling effect, evapotranspiration, water consumption – robust figures for CSRD reports.
  • Lower cooling demand88–90 % less solar radiation behind the greening; surfaces 9–16 °C cooler than sheet metal or masonry.
  • CertificationBiodiversity-promoting area and biotope area factor in DGNB/ÖGNI; funding via KPC, cities and federal states.
  • Development partnerIf you bring your own questions – roof, infrastructure, new surfaces – you can research with us.
Property & Facility Management

One maintenance visit a year. The rest runs on sensors.

What counts after handover: water, power, maintenance, failures. LivingPANELS are designed for low operating effort – with numbers you know before the decision.

< 1 m³water per m² and year1 maintenance visitper year as a rulereplaceablemodules individually removable
  • Demand-based irrigationSensor-controlled according to actual demand – despite 3–5 l of evapotranspiration per m² and day in high summer.
  • Technical monitoringAs a package from NatureBase: consumption tracking and remote fault detection.
  • Maintenance under contractMaintenance is carried out by maintenance partners under their own contract – planned, not ad hoc.
  • Winter hardiness documentedPerennial selection by location, winter operation documented in the research project; individual modules are replaceable.
  • Protection against graffitiGreen wall surfaces are of no interest to sprayers and cannot be sprayed – no cleaning cycle, no anti-graffiti coating.
Funding

Which funding programme suits your project?

Federal, state and city programmes fund facade greening – in Austria and Germany. The Funding Check shows in one minute which programmes are relevant for your building, with a guide value and a link to the funding body.

For all roles

What nobody sprays: a planted wall.

Graffiti seeks smooth, light surfaces – plinth zones, fire walls, underpasses, operations buildings. A green facade does not offer that surface: nothing to spray, nothing to paint over, no cleaning cycle and no anti-graffiti coating that has to be renewed every few years.

In addition to their impact, LivingPANELS therefore protect against graffiti – and against the cost of removal. The photo shows the difference without comment: on the left the LivingPANELS facade of the Mittelpunktbibliothek in Berlin, on the right the neighbouring wall.
