Mineral-bound, dimensionally stable, around 1 litre of root space per plant. In this form only from NatureBase.
- Winter-hardy, documented
- Fewer losses, less replanting
- One maintenance visit per year
Your facade
Facade greening rarely fails because of the idea – it fails because of the system.
BuGG competitionResilient, to us, means plants that survive heat, frost and the years. Greenery that is there at handover. An installation without surprises on the scaffolding. For that we developed three things: NatureBase Substrat®, pre-cultivation, plug & play.
And in operation: usually one maintenance visit per year, under 1 m³ of water per m² and year, remote monitoring with consumption tracking instead of inspection rounds. Running costs that stay low with these figures – and that you know before you decide.
Mineral-bound, dimensionally stable, around 1 litre of root space per plant. In this form only from NatureBase.
Pre-grown for 8 to 10 weeks in the greenhouse, delivered fully green. The greening happens in the greenhouse, not on the wall.
Mount the rails, pressure-test the irrigation, hook in the pads. Three steps, one system.
Why many green facades fail – with figures and sources: under Knowledge.
No fleece, no pockets, no troughs, no loose substrate, no organic matter that washes out. The vegetation carrier of the LivingPANELS is mineral-bound and dimensionally stable: the substrate holds its shape and carries the plants. The result of over 15 years of research, internationally protected: a system you will find in this form only at NatureBase.
“A substrate has to serve the plant, not the production line. For us there is no ‘good enough’: every detail of the LivingPANELS is engineered so that the plant on the facade has what it needs to live: room, water, nutrients.”
Our standard · NatureBase GmbHcooler air directly at the greening on hot days (daytime); around 2.5 °C on average over the 2025 heatwave. Measured in the HEDWIG research project; the raw data is publicly available.
Measured in the research projects HEDWIG (59b/2026) and MARGRET (61/2026), funded by the BMIMI. Values are building-specific and depend on system build-up, vegetation, exposure, location and season; professional maintenance and irrigation to ÖNORM L 1136 presupposed. Details and sources
Measured by BOKU/IBO at the Wien Energie Simmering reference site, HEDWIG project (2024–2025). Values depend on location and building. All measurements · Report · Raw data
From the first rail to ongoing irrigation: scroll through the installation – step by step.
Fully installed: rails, irrigation and the planted pad. Keep scrolling and we will build it up step by step.
First, the multifunction rails are fixed to the facade. High-strength aluminium or steel, corrosion-protected – the facade behind remains rear-ventilated.
Next, the irrigation hose is placed in the rail. The drippers sit above each row of modules. An irrigation test checks the entire line for leaks – only when everything is tight does work continue.
The pre-grown pads are hooked in. The facade is green from the first day. On dismantling, the pads can be removed and reused.
Without plants, the inside becomes visible: one continuous, mineral-bound substrate instead of mats or pockets, held by a tray with baffle elements that distribute the water. It stays dimensionally stable, is resistant to ageing and gives the perennials plenty of root space.
In practice
No hotline, no sales script: our technical management answers questions on structural design, irrigation, plant selection and construction sequence directly.

Property developers calculate differently from planners, municipalities differently from facility managers. For each role, what counts – with the figures behind it.
LivingPANELS emerged from research and remain anchored there. What we measure at reference sites feeds into the next generation. This is not a business line – it is the reason the system works.
Continuous measurement on site (HEDWIG, BOKU/IBO) and test rig with reference facade (MARGRET, AEE INTEC), plant trials, winter documentation. Raw data open.
All measurementsHorizontal surfaces, roofs, infrastructure such as runways.
Where does a dimensionally stable, water-storing substrate work beyond the facade?
Universities, cities and pilot customers who bring questions – we bring substrate, data and sites.
